Charlotte BronteCharlotte Bronte was the daughter of a clergyman and the third of six children. She and several of her sisters were sent to a miserable boarding school after their mother died. Bronte later worked as a teacher and a governess, although she hated both jobs. Her true interest was writing, and both she and her surviving sisters published many works under male pseudonyms. Jane Eyre, the novel we will read, is considered autobiographical. We will discuss parallels between Jane's experiences and those of the author as we read.
