thomas paineOne of the founding fathers of the United States, Thomas Paine wrote highly influential pamphlets at the beginning of the American Revolution. His work reflects Englightenment ideals; at the time it inspired rebels to declare their independence from Britain. We will read Crisis No. 1, written just before Christmas in 1776. Things looked bad for the Continental Army and Paine wrote an essay to boost morale. As we read, we will analyze the persuasive elements of Paine's speech.
