Khaled HosseiniKhaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His father was a diplomat and his mother was a high school teacher. His father's job took the family to Paris and when they were ready to return to Kabul, the Soviet Army's invasion made doing so unsafe. Instead, they moved to California where Hosseini studied biology at Santa Clara University. He went on to earn his medical degree, and began writing The Kite Runner while practicing medicine. Published in 2003, the novel quickly became an international bestseller.
