SophoclesOne of three great Greek tragedians, Sophocles' best known play is Oedipus Rex. Sophocles was younger than Aeschylus and older than Euripides. He received a good education and was an active participant in his community. He was quite attached to Athens' government, religion, and society. Sophocles wrote 123 plays over the course of his career and often competed in (and won) the Dionysian dramatic festival.

Antigone
Antigone is Oedipus' daughter. This play deals with her brothers' deaths and king Creon's reactions. Polynices, one of the brothers, is not slated to receive a proper burial. Antigone does not think this is right and wants to bury her brother herself. Unfortunately, going against the king's wishes can be a very dangerous thing.
