Greek TragediesBy the 5th century B.C., there was a fully developed theater in Athens that featured two types of plays - comedy and tragedy. These two types of plays would remain standard until Henrik Ibsen introduced his comedy of tragedies in the late 1800s. A tragedy is a play in verse dealing with serious issues that generally leads a character from happiness to unhappiness.
