1001 NightsThe Thousand and One Nights is the most famous book of Arabic prose in the Western world. If you are familiar with Sinbad the Sailor or Aladdin, you know stories from this book. It is a collection of different tales pieced together in one long story. The tales are held together with a frame story in which King Shahriyar, who marries a different woman each night and puts her to death each morning, is stalled by Princess Shaharazad who tells him a story each night but withholds its ending until the next day to spare her own life. There are 1001 nights, hence the title and the number of tales.
